Electricity demand surpasses 206 GW amid winter chill

India's peak power demand remained elevated throughout the past week due to the winter chill. Demand has consistently exceeded 200 gigawatt (GW) since 19 December.
On Monday, power demand reached 206.421GW, according to data from Grid Controller of India. The winter months typically witnesses a rise in demand due to the use of heating appliances and geysers.
Consumption of coal at domestic coal-based power plants has seen a gradual uptick this month, but the coal stock situation remains comfortable.
Data from Central Electricity Authority showed that on 20 December, consumption of domestic coal at plants stood at 2.16 million tonne, against 1.86 million tonne on 3 December.
