Made with kombucha and honey, new-age cocktails are tailored to customers who want low-calorie drinks
To most of us, the very notions of alcohol consumption and healthy living spoken in the same breath might seem contradictory. But try telling that to the new-age drinker who demands it all by placing equal importance on personal well-being and health-conscious living while not compromising on having a good time.
According to a report from international data analytics firm Global Data, titled Top Trends In Alcoholic Beverages 2023, health and wellness is the principal factor when consumers seek to purchase alcoholic drinks.
Close on the heels of this, the Indian food and beverage industry has responded innovatively, catering to wellness trends with the introduction of newage cocktails. Most of these are made with what is generally perceived as low-calorie spirits such as tequila, derived from the agave plant in Mexico. The cocktails are sweetened with agave in its syrup form, along with honey and jaggery, which are considered healthier than processed sugar. Other ingredients being used in cocktails for a low-sugar spin include probiotic-enriched drinks such as kombucha and fresh pressed fruit and vegetable juices.
