In an effort to bolster their improving ties, New Delhi and Washington are planning a high-level meeting between India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to persons aware of the matter. The meeting is expected to take place in the last week of September on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly's high-level week in New York City. The persons cited above said the meeting will continue with the efforts to bridge divides.
This will be the first in-person meeting between the two leaders since tensions between India and the US rose in July over trade tariffs and India's purchase of Russian energy. Rubio and Jaishankar had earlier met in Washington in January and early July.
