SC directs IIT Dhanbad to admit Dalit youth despite missed fee payment

TOP COURT USES SPECIAL POWERS | The Supreme Court intervened on Monday on behalf of a Dalit student who forfeited his place at IIT Dhanbad due to a missed fee payment deadline. The court directed the institute to enrol him in the BTech program.

A panel led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, stated: "We can't allow such a promising young individual to be left without options. It's crucial that we support his potential."
Invoking its special authority under Article 142 of the Constitution, the highest court instructed IIT Dhanbad to admit Atul Kumar into its Electrical Engineering BTech course, ensuring the student's academic future was not jeopardised by the missed deadline.
