Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to make a landmark visit to Kyiv on August 23, marking the first trip by an Indian prime minister to Ukraine since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations over three decades ago.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced this “historic” visit, emphasising India’s willingness to provide all possible support to help find a peaceful solution to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The prime minister’s nearly seven-hour visit to the Ukrainian capital comes at a crucial time, as Kyiv continues its military offensive against Russian forces. Modi’s trip to Ukraine follows his recent high-profile visit to Moscow, which had drawn criticism from the United States and some of its Western allies.
The back-toback visits to both countries involved in the conflict underscore India’s nuanced diplomatic approach to the crisis.
