Modi Says India, US Natural Partners, Both Working to Conclude Trade Deal

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said India and the United States are "natural partners" and that discussions on a bilateral trade pact are progressing, responding to US President Donald Trump's recent remarks that efforts are underway to address existing trade barriers between the two countries.

The exchange between the two leaders, carried out on social media platforms, comes at a time when New Delhi and Washington are seeking to recalibrate their relationship after weeks of friction sparked by tariff hikes on Indian exports to the U.S.

In a post on X, Modi noted, "India and the U.S. are close friends and natural partners. I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India-U.S. partnership." He added that teams from both sides are working to conclude the talks "at the earliest" and said he looked forward to speaking with Trump "to secure a brighter, more prosperous future for both our people."
