Marcos signs law postponing BSKE polls to Nov. 2026
Manila Bulletin
|August 15, 2025
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has signed into law a measure extending the term of office for barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials to four years as he postponed the December 2025 BSK elections to November next year.
Republic Act No. 12232, signed by the President on Wednesday, Aug. 13, amends the current three-year term and limits barangay officials to a maximum of three consecutive terms in the same position. SK officials, meanwhile, are limited to one term.
Under the law, the next barangay and SK elections will be held in the first Monday of November 2026 and every four years thereafter. Winners will assume office on the first day of December following their election.
All incumbent barangay and SK officials will remain in their posts until their successors have been elected and qualified, unless they are removed or suspended for cause.

‘Life is precious; no amount of damages can ever hope to replace it — SC
“This Court does not mean to put a price on a person's life. The value of a human being is immeasurable. It is priceless. Yet the law, in all of its justice, deems it necessary that every injury — more so the loss of life — be compensated in the form of damages.”

The 48th ASEAN Summit, at ground zero
“Navigating Our Future, Together” was the theme of the 2026 ASEAN Summit, chaired by the Philippines. It is common knowledge that what had originally been planned as a yearlong schedule of activities that would have effectively act as a showcase of our country, had to suddenly be transitioned to a ‘bare bones’, when possible, strictly online, slew of meetings and discussions.
