|May 4, 2024
Japan Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru and his wife, Mrs. Ishiba Yoshiko, during an official visit to the Philippines on April 29 to 30, visited several significant places, and met with representatives of Japanese companies operating in the Philippines.
The Prime Minister and his wife visited the Japanese Memorial Garden in Caliraya, Laguna on April 30. They offered flowers to mourn the war dead of Japan and the Philippines, and pray for peace and friendship between the two countries.
Representatives of Japanese residents in the Philippines and representatives of the Japan War Bereaved Families Association also attended the event.
The Japanese Memorial Garden is a monument erected by the Japanese Government in the Philippines to commemorate the war dead. In 1973, the Philippine Government granted permission to use land in Caliraya free use of charge, and the Japanese Government erected the Japanese Memorial Garden.
The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines holds a memorial service at the Japanese Memorial Garden every Aug. 15 to mourn the war dead and to pray for peace and friendship between the two countries.
