Globe partners with tech firms for subsea cable

The Philippines stands to benefit from higher connectivity that meets the demands of artificial intelligence (AI) as a regional consortium of telco players, including Globe Telecom Inc., plots course for a new submarine cable system.
In a statement, Globe said it is representing the Philippines in the consortium that will finance the Asia United Gateway East (AUG East) subsea cable.
The 8,900-kilometer AUG East cable will feature a high-count fibre pair system and the latest submarine fibre optic technologies.
Poised to deliver stronger network reliability and additional bandwidth, the cable system will provide the bandwidth capacity required by big tech enterprises, equivalent to streaming millions of ultrahigh-definition movies simultaneously.
The AUG East will connect Singapore and Japan, with landing points in the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, South Korea, and Taiwan.
