ROLES TO MOVE FROM LONDON TO ANCOATS DIGITAL CAMPUS

- By JOSEPH TIMAN

THE government has revealed plans to move more civil service jobs to Manchester, including at the former Central Retail Park site.

Plans to turn the former home of Toys R Us in Ancoats into a 'state-of-the-art' office complex were finally approved in February following an eight-year saga.

Dubbed the 'Manchester Digital Campus, the new hub is set to accommodate 7,000 civil servants.

The government has now announced a major shake-up of the civil service which includes moving jobs to the new hub in Ancoats.

As part of the plans, the government will be closing 11 office buildings in London over the next five years, saving £94m a year.

The number of London-based jobs will also be reduced by 12,000 by 2030 as roles are relocated to 13 towns and cities across the UK.
