WE celebrate the changing colours of deciduous trees and shrubs in autumn and you may still be enjoying the warm russet, orange, yellow and crimson leaves right now.

Temperatures have been mild for the month allowing us more outdoor time in the garden than usual.

And it's not just autumnal foliage that draws our attention and brings pleasure. There are evergreen shrubs and perennials that add interest and beauty at this time of year, whether that be flowers, berries or simply their scent.

Pileostegia viburnoides bursts into flower in autumn with clusters of frothy white flowers. It's a slowgrowing evergreen climber with long narrow leaves and is a really good choice for any aspect, including shady walls, or you could grow it Gardening Expert through trees and shrubs as well.
