£5m homes plan to keep residents off the streets

A PLAN to build new affordable homes along with accommodation for people at risk of homelessness in Salford is set to cost around £5m.

- By DECLAN CAREY

A total of 18 self-contained one-bed-room homes are set to be built with funding from the government's Single Homelessness Accommodation Programme (SHAP), alongside plans for seven family houses for social rent, Salford City Council said.

The new homes will be based at sites on Tully Street South in Higher Broughton and Bridgewater Street, Little Hulton.

They are aimed at reducing the need for temporary accommodation for those at risk of becoming homeless, and creating 'move on' homes for people who may struggle to manage a tenancy in general housing.
