BEVAN SHINES IN DERBY WIN
Llanelli Star
|May 14, 2025
TOM Bevan was the star of the show as Ammanford claimed their first win of the South Wales Premier Cricket League campaign.
-
They secured a tense two-wicket victory at home to Pontarddulais.
The visitors elected to bat first and got off to a steady start, reaching 41 before Richard Grant (23) fell to the bowling of Jac Kenchington in the 16th over.
Economical bowling by Dan Roberts and Josef Davies kept the run rate under control, but man of the match Bevan played the central role with figures of 4-38.
That helped reduce Bont to 175 all out.
Carl Roberts top-scored with 39.
In reply, Ammanford's opening partnership of Bevan and Gruff Owen put on 42.
Bevan reached a fine half-century in style in the 21st over, but two overs later he was dismissed and the pendulum started to swing Bont's way.
But Josef Davies made 35 off 39 balls to give the home side the edge, and his partnership of 36 with Rhodri Davies steered Ammanford towards the winning line.
Ammanford travel to Usk on Saturday.
In Premier League 2, Mumbles held off Carmarthen Wanderers in a tight finish.
The Swansea side were all out for 182 after choosing to bat first. Max Phillips top-scored with 34.
Tom Davies and Gareth Thomas both picked up three wickets for the visitors.
