Leaders condemn Rovers to home defeat
han Smith heads against the post from close-range during yesterday's defeat to Bromley at Prenton Park
(PHIL BRYAN/SHUTTERSTOCK)
EAGUE Two's top scorer Michael Cheek bagged a clinical brace as Tranmere Rovers suffered their first defeat of the year in a disappointing 2-0 loss against top of the table Bromley.
The result sees Rovers slip further away from the playoff places on a day where they had the opportunity to climb up to 11th in the standings, due to weather-based cancellations and FA Cup fixtures taking place across the division.
Andy Woodman’s Bromley side took the lead through Cheek, who rose highest at the back post to head the ball into the back of the net after just 90 seconds.
The veteran forward jumped above Aaron McGowan and Patrick Brough to meet Mitch Pinnock’s pinpoint cross and net his 13th goal of the season.
