This is set to be toughest time of Moyes' second spell
Liverpool Echo
|December 16, 2025
I THINK the coming few weeks will be the toughest time of David Moyes’ second spell at Everton so far.
While he returned to the club with the team facing a relegation battle, he quickly built the momentum to take the Blues away from trouble and has not looked back.
Everton ended last season well and they have started this campaign in positive fashion, even picking up some landmark wins at places they have typically struggled at over recent years.
There have been moments of pressure and drama across 2025 but, for me, this year will end with a real challenge for Moyes.
While the threat of being pulled into a dogfight at the bottom of the table is a distant one, working out how to navigate the coming games with the squad he has will be tough.
This was always going to be the case once Idrissa Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye departed for the Africa Cup of Nations, where they could miss as many as seven games if Senegal, one of the favourites, make the final.
But the situation has intensified with the events at Chelsea on Saturday.
