Safety patrols at apartment blocks at 'high risk' of fire
Liverpool Echo
|December 16, 2025
PEOPLE living in a number of Liverpool city centre apartment blocks have been told their buildings are at “high risk” of fire catching and spreading, with “waking watch” safety patrols now in place.
Documents leaked to the ECHO show the city centre buildings contain similar combustible materials to those blamed for spreading the flames which engulfed the Grenfell Tower, in which 72 people died.
The documents the ECHO has seen concern fire safety reports from two flat blocks at Wolstenholme Square in Liverpool city centre which were built by city development company Elliot Group. The ECHO understands another Elliot Group-built apartment block, Parliament Place, has also been affected.
The individual companies behind both developments - linked to the wider Elliot Group - have both since gone into liquidation.
The Wolstenholme Square flats formed part of a major £100m revamp of the site, once home to Nation, the club that hosted Cream.
