Fire alarm and no lifts 'ruined' Christmas Day for residents

CHRISTMAS Day was “ruined” for some living in a Wirral apartment building after they were left without vital lifts and a fire alarm ringing out in the small hours of the morning.

Originally an 1850s mill, East Float Quay on Dock Road in Birkenhead was converted into around 170 homes looking out onto the River Mersey. Among those living in the building are couples, families and vulnerable residents. A thriving community was looking forward to celebrating the festivities.

However, in the early hours of Christmas morning their sleep was broken by the piercing ring of a fire alarm which went on for the whole day. Colin Griffiths has lived in his apartment for almost two years and said despite numerous calls to the building’s property management company, RMG, their day was ruined by the noise.

He said: “The fire alarm was activated at around 3.30am in the larger mills. The fire service came out and confirmed there hadn’t been a fire.
