DRAMATIC DOWNFALL OF HOTEL AND WEDDING VENUE COMPANY REVEALED AS POSSESSION OF HISTORIC BUILDING ORDERED
THE dramatic downfall of a company behind a luxury Merseyside hotel and wedding venue that closed suddenly last year has been revealed, with the Grade II* listed building it operated out of now under a possession order after a High Court ruling.
In February last year, Leasowe Castle Hotel closed down overnight, leaving workers unpaid and throwing couples' wedding plans into disarray.
Shortly before the current closure, the ECHO published an investigation into the deteriorating situation at the historic hotel, which had been hit with a zero hygiene rating the previous summer after inspectors found an infestation of mice.
Then, furious employees who had worked across the busy Christmas period of 2024 and into 2025 told us they had not received months' worth of wages owed to them and shared messages which showed the owners threatening legal action against anyone who had turned up at the site to ask for the cash they were owed.
Now the ECHO can reveal more details of the collapse of the company that was operating the luxury hotel and wedding venue, how they were evicted from the site and how a possession order was then served on the site.
Around a week after the initial ECHO investigation into Leasowe Castle Hotel went live in February last year, the hotel ceased trading, with notices placed across its front doors stating that the business had "temporarily closed until further notice" and warning people not to enter or trespass on the site.
A message was sent to staff members at the time, which stated that "due to circumstances beyond the hotel company's control, we advise that we are immediately ceasing trading and operations temporarily until further notice."
