Ethan's blindfold peak climb to show solidarity with friend

A 19-year-old is preparing to climb the tallest peak in the Peak District blindfolded. Ethan Casement, of Witham St Hughs, will be tackling Kinder Scout later this month in honour of his friend, Charlie Dowdall, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2014.

Now 13 years old, Charlie has undergone multiple treatments and brain surgery, and is also registered visually impaired as a result of his cancer and its treatment. The pair first met at a Lincoln City football match, where Ethan was working at the time as a hospitality manager.

Charlie, of Lincoln, had gone with his parents, Ricky and Kelly, but struck up a conversation with Ethan, who described the teenager as “a real character”, adding that Charlie is “a very upbeat boy despite his hardships in life.”
