Dad's inspiring Nepal relief work story

A heroic medic told about inspiring relief work which helped victims of the devastating earthquakes in Nepal.
-
Braveheart Tam Whyte endured a terrifying lightning storm which struck the plane he was on while flying to the disaster-hit country, which was shattered by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in April 2015, as well as a second major quake which caused devastation.
The 41-year-old former Rosshead man, who was a medic in the army for 23 years, spoke about the moment the second quake hit.
He said: "The only way to describe it is if you're standing on a bouncy castle and everybody else is jumping around you and you're standing bent down trying to keep stable.
"We were in a partly destroyed school at the top of a mountain and we looked at each other and said, 'It's just an aftershock!
"We'd already had 20 or 30 aftershocks and didn't think much of it but it got more and more intense so we fled the building. Everybody linked arms facing inwards looking up to ensure nothing fell on our heads.
"We decided to get off the hill and see if there were any casualties and if any more buildings had collapsed. There was an old lady in tears so we went and helped get her belongings out of her home and she said she would never set foot in her house again.
