MSP wants ministers to end proposals for Loch Lomond

Call to reject Flamingo Land's plans for resort

Controversial The plans were rejected by the National Park authority and an appeal is now underway. Opposition Ross Greer

An MSP has called on ministers to “end the uncertainty hanging over Loch Lomond” by rejecting Flamingo Land’s tourism resort plans.

Scottish Green co-leader Ross Greer said it was time for the chapter to close on the controversial proposals after they were first mooted a decade ago.

Lomond Banks, owned by theme park operator Flamingo Land, want to build more than 100 lodges, two hotels, a water park, monorail and parking spaces for more than 300 cars at the site on the southern shores of the loch.

In May last year, the government's reporter granted an appeal and approved planning permission in principle to the development - but placed 49 conditions on the application.

Public Finance Minister Ivan McKee had previously declined to step in regarding the decision to proceed with the plans.

But in June, he confirmed that the government would “call-in” the plans.

The developer urged ministers to “see through the hysteria” on the issue and apply the rules fairly.
