NO-ONE EVER CHARGED OVER CHRISTMAS 2016 HIT-AND-RUN WHICH CHANGED KAYLEY'S LIFE
A MUM whose life was torn apart when she was almost killed in a hit-and-run collision says she can never forgive the driver.
Kayley Hicken, 35, was mowed down while she waited for a taxi outside a friend’s house in Thurmaston on December 17, 2016.
A white VW Golf mounted the pavement and ploughed into her, dragging the mum-of-one under the car.
The driver has never been traced.
Kayley suffered a traumatic brain injury, a broken leg, smashed pelvis, torn liver and internal bleeding.
Her injuries were so severe, her family were told she was close to death.
But she defied the odds and, after a week in a coma and two months in hospital, doctors described her as an “unexpected survivor”.
Police launched a manhunt for the driver but, despite several arrests, no-one was ever charged.
Kayley, who was forced to abandon her career as a carer as a result of the crash, still suffers pain and emotional scarring today.
There is also a risk of she will need further surgery and potentially require a wheelchair in later life.
