CITY FIGHTER OVERCOMES 'TEAK TOUGH' OPPONENT ON HOME TERRITORY

DESPITE the loss of "headline act" Callum Blockley from the card, fight fans were treated to a memorable night as professional boxing returned to Mattioli Arena, Leicester, after an 11-month absence, writes David Wainwright.

With Blaby super-lightweight Blockley unable to appear, the nine-fight card, promoted by Carl Greaves, of Newark, still produced some impressive moments from homegrown heroes.

Ryan Hearst (5-1, 154lb 6oz), of Leicester, put in a determined performance against Manchester fighter "teak tough" Dan Booth (8-15,3KOs, 156lb 6oz) to end 18 months of inactivity following his first career loss at the same venue.

Hearst produced the superior work and workrate throughout, impressing against former English title eliminator challenger Booth.

Despite a severe talking-to from referee Kevin Parker during the second round for dissent, he prevailed 40-36 on his scorecard.

Hearst's promoter/manager, Greaves said: "I'm so delighted for Ryan after 18 months out the ring.
