A SIX-YEAR-OLD Leicester girl died after a charging vape caught fire in her bedroom, an inquest has concluded.

- By DYLAN HAYWARD

Chamiah Grace Brindley, known as Miah, was asleep when the blaze broke out at around 4am on September 10 last year.

The fire started in the attic bedroom she shared with her older sibling at the family home on Bedale Drive, in the Mowmacre area of Leicester, an inquest held on Monday and Tuesday heard.

The blaze was caused by overheating and combustion of a charging vape pen situated close to her older sibling’s bed, the coroner was told.

Miah’s sibling woke the family by banging on their mother’s bedroom door, shouting that the house was on fire, the inquest heard. Miah’s mother, Ms Moore, her partner Mr Wilkinson and Ms Moore’s son evacuated the other children before realising Miah had not escaped, and then attempted to reach her bedroom.
