Drug dealer who fatally ran man over is jailed

A DRUG dealer who ran over and killed a man as he lay in the road has been jailed.
Karl Twyford, 29, pictured, formerly of Kegworth, was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court this week to a total of four-and-a-half years in prison.
Following a retrial earlier this year, a jury took just an hour to unanimously find Twyford guilty of causing the death of Steve Day, a keen motorcyclist, by careless or inconsiderate driving.
Prosecutor Esther Harrison said the victim was in Park Lane, Sutton Bonington, when he was driven over by the defendant shortly after 10pm on October 30, 2021.
She said the victim lived in the village and had been socialising.
He left the King’s Head pub, in Main Street, shortly after 9.40pm and was “intoxicated”.
Ms Harrison said: “A witness was driving her car with a passenger and she saw something lying in the road and realised it was a person.
“She said he was laying on his back in the road with his hand over his chest and she slowed down and manoeuvred around him.
