GOVERNMENT GRANTS AIM TO GIVE ALL HEALTHIER CHOICES
ALMOST £15 million has been granted to councils in Leicestershire and Rutland for walking and cycling schemes.
The government funding is part of a £626 million national package, initially announced as part of the Spending Review in June, and aims to deliver greater choice in how people travel, creating safer, healthier journeys and boosting economic growth.
Leicester City Council, in recognition of its significant work towards these goals, has received the largest grant of any council in the East Midlands, at £10,169,331.
Leicestershire County Council has been awarded £4,399,529 and Rutland County Council £255,493.
Across the East Midlands region as a whole, councils have been awarded a total pot of £43,320,007 (see table below).
