HOMEGROWN RECIPIENTS OF THE KING'S BIRTHDAY HONOURS

- By TOM MACK

THE recipients of King's Birthday Honours have been announced - and they include many Leicestershire people who have made a difference to countless lives.

The list includes a celebrated head teacher, a nursery owner and a former policeman who runs a safety company helping prevent deaths and injuries on Britain's roads.

They join many familiar and famous faces on the list, including former England footballer David Beckham, actor Gary Oldman and The Who singer Roger Daltrey, who have all been knighted.

There are also honours for Strictly Come Dancing presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkelman, teenage darts star Luke Littler and singer Elaine Page. But who are the local recipients?

Farhan Adam MBE

The head teacher of Crown Hills Community College, Evington, Mr Adam has supported generations of youngsters in the city during his working life in education.

The award of the MBE comes two years after he was named head teacher of the year in the Pearson National Teaching Awards.

Head of the 1,500-pupil school in Gwendolen Road since 2017, Mr Adam is widely praised in the birthday honours citation.

It says: “Under his guidance, pupil attainment outcomes have steadily improved, from being below national and local authority averages in 2019 to being above in 2023.
