THE jubilation of the end of the war in Europe is palpable in a letter written by Marjory Kelsey to her husband, William, who was serving with the Army.

Marjory was in Redhill with their son Billy and her parents.
In a long letter, headed in capitals, 'THIS IS A HAPPY, HAPPY DAY', she poured out her feelings of joy and hope for the future and described how the town erupted in celebration.
"I feel very excited and happy.. I guess you will feel like it, too," she wrote. "Now we can really start making plans for the lovely future we shall spend together. In a way, sweetheart, it will have been well worth waiting for.
