What is sarcoma?

A sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that develops in the body's connective tissues, which include bones, muscles, fat, blood vessels, nerves, and cartilage.

Unlike more common cancers that arise from epithelial cells (like those in the skin or lining of organs), sarcomas originate from mesenchymal cells, which are the building blocks of connective tissues.
There are two main types of sarcoma: soft tissue sarcoma and bone sarcoma (also called osteosarcoma).
