Man set free over thefts after being 'led astray' during courtship

After being held on remand for a fortnight Maggie Thompson, aged 21, of Bolton, and Thomas Grimbaldeston, aged 20, an assistant photographer from Preston, appeared in the dock at the Blackpool Police Court in late July 1912.

Firstly, Thompson was charged with larceny from a house on Adelaide Street in Blackpool.

The Chief Constable of Blackpool, Mr. W. J. Pringle, said in early July there were stolen from the house a silver watch, two gold necklets, a cream alpaca coat and other articles to the value of £5.

Mr. Pringle said there were 10 other offences of stealing against the woman estimated at over £50, of which over £40 worth of goods had been recovered. It was believed she had been entering large boarding houses unobserved and entered bedrooms that were unoccupied at the time.
