The scrapping of the Police and Crime Commissioner role (PCC) reinforces the need for a mayor to represent Lancashire, says the county's PCC Clive Grunshaw.

- by Tony Durkin

Mr Grunshaw, twice elected to the office in Lancashire, was reacting to the Government's announcement yesterday that the role of PCC in England and Wales, is to be abolished in 2028.

The elected officials were first introduced in 2012 and their responsibilities include setting budgets for their police forces and appointing the most senior officer - the chief constable - for their area.
