Backed by raw pace, bold reforms, and breakout IPL contracts, Jammu and Kashmir transform decades of struggle into a historic first Ranji Trophy final berth.

- Ankit Patel

Auqib Nabi learned his craft on Baramulla's rugged paths, his fast arm slicing air without polished fields or proper gear. Trials dismissed him twice, so he charged harder each time.

The 2025-26 season unleashed his fury with 55 wickets, a haul that sealed 8.4 crore from Delhi Capitals in the IPL. His fire fuels Jammu and Kashmir's core, a pulse that drives the squad's epic climb.

Teams dismissed J&K as easy marks for over 60 years, thrilled simply to compete. This year they flipped the plot, crushing Bengal to grab their inaugural Ranji final slot.

J&K entered the scene in 1959, enduring 23 winless years. In 335 outings, victories numbered 46 while losses hit 207.

Transformation brewed over a decade, lifting them skyward. Bishan Singh Bedi instilled faith in 2011 through hands-on lessons. Irfan Pathan explored isolated spots to unearth pure talent.

Triumph over Mumbai in 2014 signaled their edge against titans. The 2025-26 push delivered the Ranji final berth, a testament to how drive and expertise forge contenders from humble roots.

Reform swept the backend first. The association escaped past tangles under Mithun Manhas and Brigadier Anil Gupta’s helm. Talent hunters ventured to Baramulla’s edges and Rajouri's depths, discovering prospects alien to grand venues.
