Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement in Parliament that terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has dropped by nearly 80 per cent in the past decade is significant.

He said the union territory has witnessed a steep fall in terror incidents, civilian casualties, and attacks on security forces, a reality borne out by the data. According to figures he shared, while 7,217 incidents occurred between 2004 and 2014, the number fell to 2,150 from 2015 to 2025. Civilian deaths came down from 1,770 to 357 and security personnel deaths from 1,060 to 542.
