Manston museum helps bring history to life for Upton pupils

ONE of the most dramatic historical events that shaped the lives of people in Thanet was the Second World War, when the heroes of the RAF played a crucial role in defending Britain.

As part of their topic Tides of Change, exploring the historical development of the district, Year 5 children at Upton Juniors in Broadstairs visited the acclaimed Spitfire and Hurricane Museum at the former Battle of Britain airbase at Manston.
They were captivated by the stories associated with the iconic aircraft and how these relate to their local history.
It was heartening to witness their engagement as they eagerly joined in discussions and asked probing questions about the impact of the Second World War on the community.
