Oarsome day out in race on Thames
Irish Sunday Mirror
|September 28, 2025
I believe every day is a gift and we should not wish our lives away ~ but I can’t help looking forward to certain occasions such as family birthdays, being on the start line of a big race, Christmas, the first day of the football season and, most recently, ‘The Great River Race’.

Last Saturday my friends and | took part once again in this amazing event - more than 250 rowing boats of all shapes and sizes taking on nearly 22 miles of the Thames from Greenwich to Ham. Our boat, ‘One in Eight’ was one of 75 Cornish pilot gigs in the race.
It is truly an inclusive event with entries from scout groups to international rowing teams - all having a shared experience with the other crews.
