Van Dijk and Co have a Euro night to forget as Arne's leaky Reds' season comes off rails

- ANDY DUNN

WHEN Guus Til clipped home PSV Eindhoven's second of the night, Virgil van Dijk did not know who to blame.

His midfielders for not closing down Mauro Junior, the talented provider, or Milos Kerkez for losing the scorer.

But he could easily have blamed himself. Not for that particular goal but for setting the tone with one of his more erratic performances.

And when big Virgil is erratic, Arne Slot knows he has got problems. Big problems.

Van Dijk-sized problems.

If there is one Liverpool player who is always willing to hold his hand up, whatever the circumstances, it is Van Dijk.

But not, normally, in this fashion.

As captain, Van Dijk feels it is a very clear duty to speak for the team win, lose or draw.

But he has been the lone spokesman in the squad, a leader taking on more than a lion's share of responsibility.
