  • Spain produces 40% of the world's olive oil. The country is also home to the world's oldest restaurant - Sobrino de Botín in Madrid opened in 1698.

  • Spanish is the second most widely spoken native language in the world.

  • Many enjoy tapas it comes from the Spanish verb tapar, meaning to cover but it originated when a barman would put a slice of cheese or ham on a plate and then use it to cover a glass to prevent fruit flies from getting into the drink.
