Daragh in deep trouble with jellyfish during swim around Irish coast

SWIM HERO: STING IT ON!

SMILES Daragh gives the thumbs up from boat

JUST when he thought it couldn't get any more painful than a sting from a lion's mane, up came the mauve stinger to say, hold my beer!

"I could only compare it to being electrocuted with a barbed wire," is how Daragh Morgan described being stung by this particularly nasty species of jellyfish, on his way to completing an incredible 1,600km swim around the coastline of Ireland.

Morgan, who previously spoke to Fitter Happier halfway through his remarkable journey, completed his mission in five months and 17 days.

And he has raised over €27,000 so far, with the Simon Community and RNLI sent to benefit from his heroic endeavour.

Morgan swam through challenging sea conditions, shifting currents, biting cold and fatigue, and was backed by a support crew on board the famous Galway Hooker, the Naomh Cronan.

There were just two days out of his entire swim when the cold forced him out of the water before he completed his goal for that session.

Impressive, considering the pain that he often had to force himself to swim through.
