Pumped-up Mcllroy to take a swing at the Americans as Ryder Cup battles commence

- Neil McLEMAN

RORY Mcllroy has challenged his European teammates to become legends by securing a historic Ryder Cup away win this weekend.

But the visitors will have to beat a US side fired up by Bryson DeChambeau, who wants to take down the Masters champion.

Survivors

Eight of the last nine showdowns have been won by the home side with the Ulsterman and Justin Rose the only survivors from the Miracle in Medinah.

After winning back the trophy in Rome, McIlroy stated that winning an away Ryder Cup is "one of the biggest accomplishments in golf right now" and added: "And that's what we're going to do at Bethpage."
