Hickey downs old club to give Bohs reason to celebrate

- BY MARK MCCADDEN

WHO ELSE was going to break the deadlock but Bohemians' former Galway United centre-half Patrick Hickey?

With three minutes left, the giant American defender rose above everyone to meet Markuss Strods' corner at the near post and send his glancing header inside the far upright.

Hickey joined Bohs during the winter from the Eamonn Deacy Park side and settled quickly into his new Dalymount Park home.

His first goal for the Gypsies will further endear him to the supporters who have grown accustomed to watching him dominate in a defence that has conceded in just one of their first six games so far this season.

Things could have been so different, however, last night, had Stephen Walsh converted 10 minutes before Hickey's winner.

Bohs keeper Kacper Chorazka modestly suggested before the game that the quality of the defending in front of him was the reason for his run of clean sheets.
