Agency keeping track of pupil movements between primary schools

- BY JOHN KIERANS

TUSLA has started implementing new rules to stop children like Kyran Durnin going missing for years undetected.

There is still no sign of the little boy who would be 9 years old now and vanished in the summer of 2022, despite a full blown Garda murder investigation.

But the Children's Minister Norma Foley said changes are being made by the child and family protection agency following the report by the National Review Panel (NRP) into Kyran's case. These specifically centre around tracking pupil movement between primary schools and cross border movements so no child falls between faults in the system.

GUIDANCE

New guidance has also been given to social workers in terms of network checking and development of procedures for a waiting list of urgent cases they might have.

Kyran was taken out of his school in Dundalk in June, 2022, to another school in the North but he was never seen again publicly after that.
