KERRY STAR GEANEY ONLY HAS EYES FOR CAVAN AND THE NOW

CAVAN and Kerry might have all sorts to quiz Paul Geaney on - but right now Kerry fans are only interested in whether their forward star will be fit for this weekend's do-or-die All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final encounter at Fitzgerald Stadium.

- BY KARL O'KANE

Geaney was planning to train last night, having sat out last weekend's shock defeat to Meath in Tullamore, which plunged Kerry into a hectic schedule of three Championship games in two weeks.

It also set them on a collision course with All-Ireland champions Armagh, who barring a shock in this weekend's preliminary quarter-finals, they'll meet in the last eight the weekend after next.

Geaney shipped a heavy knock in Kerry's win over Cork, but it was a later incident which forced him out of the game.

"There was an incident just before where I hammered my head off the ground and there was a chance there (of concussion)," he says.

"In hindsight, I probably should have gone off before the second belt to take a look. I don't think it was (concussion) in the end. I don't know.

"It really happened so quickly. It was just a straight knee into the shoulder. It just gave me a bit of bone bruising. Full movement and everything.

"Now I have to kind of hit targets, tick the boxes and go back to training tonight, so we'll see after that.
