KELLIE COULD BE KEY COACH FOR OLYMPICS

KELLIE Harrington would be a good fit to coach Ireland's Olympic boxing hopefuls if she decides not to make a comeback for LA 2028.

Harrington hung up her gloves at international level after the Paris Games, when she won her second Olympic gold in a row.

But the 35 year old has remained part of the IABA's elite boxing unit, with Sport Ireland supporting athletes at that level for up to a year after they retire.

While she will not compete in the inaugural World Boxing World Championships in Liverpool this week, the IABA’s recently-appointed performance director Jon Mackey has been impressed by the influence Harrington has had and the support and inspiration she has provided.
