J1 visas alert as US blitzes social media

THOUSANDS of J1 students have been warned they will be denied entry to the US or deported in a social media crackdown.
J1 students go to America for work every summer - but, under a new US process, applicants' posts, shares and likes will be screened.
It means US government officials will snoop on Irish students' social media activity and their J1 applications will be denied for expressing thoughts that the US administration does not agree with.
The move has seen America's further slip into authoritarianism under President Donald Trump.
Senator Laura Harmon, Labour's higher education spokesperson, branded Trump's move "deeply worrying".
