Gardai put up a ring of steel at Dail

Gardai filled Leinster House and surrounding areas, as the Emergency Response Unit's new half-a-million euro armoured jeep got one of its first outings.

A Lieutenant's Guard of Honour took place at Government Buildings as President Zelensky was welcomed with the Ukrainian and Irish anthems.

President Zelensky then attended a bilateral meeting with Taoiseach Micheal Martin.

Welcoming President Zelensky to his first official state visit, the Taoiseach said Ireland will support Ukraine for "as long as it takes" and he wished his trip was under "different, happier circumstances".
