FORMER Ireland striker Kevin Doyle insists Evan Ferguson is in a great position at Roma to turn himself into a better striker.

The Italian club use a one-up-top system so a lot is expected of the player leading the line, he has to know when to strike out for goal or to hold the ball up.

Given this is the system best suited to Ireland at present, his loan move could work out well for us.

"Ireland's back three or four, on paper, are solid, mainly Premier League players, who've gone for a lot of money.

"However, it doesn't always translate to the national team.

"What we do have is Evan Ferguson up front and Troy Parrott, who has started the season excellently.

"Evan would be, I suppose, on paper and in the last few years, a big hope.
