IRELAND is braced for a 13-hour battering today as Storm Dave prepares to unleash its fury.

Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow wind warning from 1pm today until 2am tomorrow morning on Easter Sunday.

All areas will also face heavy rain, especially in the afternoon.

The warning, which had been in place for nine hours, comes amid fears the storm system, currently forming in the Atlantic, will undergo "rapid cyclogenesis" as it tracks towards Ireland.

On top of the lengthy Yellow warning, Met Eireann has issued a nationwide entire Easter Bank holiday weekend from yesterday through to Monday, warning of a "very mobile Atlantic regime' and a "very active jet stream".

THREAT

The public has been warned of difficult driving conditions from the threat of fallen trees as well as wave overtopping in coastal areas. Power outages are also a possibility.
