Cutting the cost for couples in 'cuffing season'
Irish Daily Star
|October 09, 2025
IT'S often said that money can't buy you love.
However, new research shows what the exact cost romance will be for Irish singletons looking for a date this winter.
It estimates it will cost each person €61.50 to enjoy a night out.
The findings also show more than half of those out looking for love will go on an average of five dates over the next few months.
The research has been carried out on behalf of pizzeria chain Milano to mark the start of what's known as “cuffing season” - when people go in search of someone to handcuff themselves to for the winter months.
However, they have to be willing to dig deep to find that partner.
From last-minute taxis to onetime-only outfits and app subscriptions, modern dating comes with a hefty price tag.
The survey revealed 51% admit they regret how much they spent on dating when things didn't work out.

THIS NEWSREADER CAN GENERATE HIS OWN HEADLINES AT CHELMSFORD
NEWSREADER showed regressive form latterly for Kevin Philippart De Foy but a move to Edward Smyth-Osborne in August has seen him return to some of his better form, with the fitting of cheekpieces seemingly a catalyst for his revival in fortunes. His recent resurgence has come on turf, making the frame at both Windsor and Ffos Las, but both his wins have come on the all-weather and there's a strong chance that a return to an artificial surface is going to suit him even better.
