CLUB SEASON HEATING UP AS KOBE DELIVERS

GAA Club Championship season is starting to rev up with most counties now in the knockout stages of their local competitions.

There are semifinals and finals across the country to look forward to in the coming weeks.

We take a look at four of the biggest stories of a hectic weekend of club action.

KOBE MCDONALD MAKING WAVES

HOW is a son of Ciaran McDonald with the first name of one of the greatest basketball players of all time going to avoid the hype?

Kobe McDonald is already a name Mayo GAA fans are familiar with and word is starting to spread nationally about the 17-year-old.

McDonald (below) hit 1-5 from play for his Crossmolina club in their comfortable weekend victory over Belmullet in the Mayo Senior Championship that set up a semifinal encounter with Westport (Knockmore and holders Ballina meet in the other semifinal).

Crossmolina look like a club on the way up again. The 2001 senior All-Ireland champions won this year's All-Ireland intermediate title with Conor Loftus’ last gasp penalty edging them over the line back in January.

The Deel Rovers side also have key Mayo player Jordan Flynn.
