CAPRI FUN FOR SPARKY FORD...

Electric rebirth of motoring icon will turn heads

OK OK BEFORE you jump down my throat I KNOW it doesn't look anything like the iconic Ford Capri that offered affordable sports driving to my parents' generation.

But even though the old Capri is still reverered as the "European Mustang" it's been a long time since it bid us farewell back in 1986 so in fairness to Ford, they're entitled to rummage around in the back catalogue for some inspiration.

Sure didn't they do just that with their very first electric car, the Mustang Mach-E that was not very Mustangy truth be told but was still packing a serious bit of power like its eternal namesake.

Ford now have three electric cars on the go in Europe, the Mach-E, this new Capri and the Explorer.

Ford's built the Capri on VW's MEB platform which is also home to a host of other well-known EVs and means the US giant didn't have to shed out the billions it costs to develop one all alone, a commonplace tactic even among rivals in today's motoring scene.
